CalPortland Mojave Plant Tour

During the IEEE West Coast Conference you will tour CalPortlands Mojave Cement Plant. This plant has a number of interesting features to see including the largest Behind the Meter wind project in the U.S. Eight 3 Megawatt wind turbines were installed in early 2008 and generate as much as 60 million kWh/year of renewable wind power. When the wind is blowing, the Mojave Plant is literally Running with the Wind. You will have an opportunity to see these 400 ft tall wind turbines up close.

The Mojave Plant is also one of the few cement plants in the country to have on-site oxygen generation plants. The two oxygen plants produce oxygen gas which is injected directly into the kiln and improves the efficiency and productivity of clinker production.
Mojave has recently employed an innovative energy management program (enManage) that allows plant operators to optimize the efficiency of the plant. The Mojave plant has won multiple PCA Energy Efficiency awards and has made energy efficiency a core value.
Finally, Mojave was the second plant in the U.S. to install a high efficiency vertical cement grinding mill. This mill replaced several older ball mills and improved the efficiency of cement grinding by 40%.
A note that all buses will return directly to the Green Tree Convention Center after the plant tour is completed.
